What distinguishes the Center for Retailing Excellence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison?
- The University of Wisconsin-Madison prepares the best and brightest students from nearly every program imaginable to become leaders in their chosen fields. The Center for Retailing Excellence is a powerful force in guiding more students to explore career opportunities in the retailing industry.
- The growing shortage of qualified leaders permeates all levels and aspects of the retailing industry. The Center for Retailing Excellence is taking a new strategic approach to helping our partner companies alleviate this shortage by helping students redefine their interests, talents, and goals in terms of how they relate to the retailing industry. By reaching out to undeclared sophomores, and freshman in addition to retail, business, liberal arts, design, and other majors, we will dramatically increase the size and quality of the pool of candidates for leadership positions in the industry.
- The retail degree offered by the University of Wisconsin-Madison is the most comprehensive and challenging in the nation. The program is one of the few in the nation to offer a Bachelor of Science degree rather than simply a certificate.
- In addition, the department offers masters and doctoral level education in Consumer Behavior applied to the retailing industry. Developing the future educators is critical to developing a consistent pipeline of well prepared graduates.
- Our interdisciplinary approach educates students to be prepared to take on leadership roles within the retailing industry. Our students excel in basic skills such as math, accounting, statistics, and computer applications necessary in all retail careers. In addition there is a real emphasis on other skills such as leadership, economics, consumer behavior, management, and real life experiences. Our retailing students go well beyond a typical business degree in their preparation to become innovators and leaders within the retail industry.
- The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a long history of working effectively with businesses nationwide. The February, 2007 issue of Inc. Magazine lists the University of Wisconsin-Madison among ‘Five Universities you can do business with,” stating that University of Wisconsin-Madison is a school that treats business people as “allies and equals”.
