Consumer Science Student Association
This sheet is meant to explain to both advisors and students the role of the Consumer Science Student Association (CSSA).
What is CSSA?
The Consumer Science Student Association is a student run group unified to help Consumer Science students best utilize their tools and understand their major. Our main interest is helping undergraduate students understand the value of their major in context with a number of professional interests. Additionally, the group serves as a network opportunity for students and consumer professionals. The CSSA is a student chapter of the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals (SOCAP), an international association focusing on consumer protection.
What does CSSA offer Consumer Science students?
CSSA uses a number of ways to help Consumer Science students further understand their major. We invite university faculty and Consumer Affairs professionals to campus to present to our members about various topics relevant to the Consumer Science major. Also, CSSA travels to Midwestern area businesses that employ Consumer Affairs professionals in an effort to gain insight into our field of study. These speakers and trips are meant to help Consumer Science students understand and prepare for the opportunities they have after graduation. Another goal of CSSA is to help Consumer Science students get to know others in their major by holding socials. Through speakers, trips, and socials CSSA will help students feel more comfortable with their major and more prepared for graduation.
