Judi Bartfeld is a Professor in the Department of Consumer Science, an affiliate at the Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP), and Specialist with Cooperative Extension. She also serves as director of the Institute for Research on Poverty – U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Security Research, Innovation, and Development Grants in Economics (RIDGE) program. She received her Ph.D. in Social Welfare at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research is in the broad areas of food security, food assistance programs, and child support and the economic wellbeing of single-parent families. Current projects include an examination of participation in and benefits of school meal programs; contextual factors related to household food security; longer-term patterns and outcomes of food insecurity; and shared placement and the economic wellbeing of single parents. Through Cooperative Extension, she is involved in a variety of applied research and outreach initiatives related to food insecurity in Wisconsin at the state and local levels.
