Maximilian Schmeiser is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Consumer Science and an affiliate at the Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) and La Follette School of Public Affairs. He received his Ph.D. in Policy Analysis and Management at Cornell University, and his M.A. in Economics at McMaster University. His research is in the areas of Health Economics and Labor Economics, with an emphasis on the economics of obesity and disability. His current research projects are in four main areas: What are the economic causes and consequences of the increasing prevalence of obesity? Which measure of fatness best predicts various health and socioeconomic outcomes? How does the Earned Income Tax Credit alter the economic decisions of low-income families? How has the Americans with Disabilities Act affected the employment and economic wellbeing of the disabled?
