Financial Aid
The Department of Consumer Science tries to provide financial support for all Ph.D. students making satisfactory progress towards their degree in the form of research, project, and teaching assistantships, graduate fellowships, and scholarships. All incoming Ph.D. students are guaranteed two years of funding.
M.S. students are not guaranteed funding; however, teaching, research and project assistantships are available to qualified students on a competitive basis. Selection is based on the applicant's scholarly promise and ability to perform the required duties. M.S. students may also be considered for scholarships based on academic merit. In practice, all admitted M.S. students have received full funding for two years.
No separate application is required for any of the funding offered by the Department of Consumer Science.
Advanced Opportunity Fellowships are available for students of color and educationally disadvantaged nonminority students at any stage of graduate study. University fellowship holders and assistantship holders (with a 33 1/3 percent or more award) also receive remission of all tuition and comprehensive insurance coverage. Funds to support graduate student research are available through the School of Human Ecology and the Graduate School.
