The University and College

Bucky giving a high five.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a strong reputation as a research university, ranking as one of the top ten universities in America in every survey of scholarly reputation conducted since 1990. Founded in 1849, the university is a public, land-grant institution that provides on a single campus a complete spectrum of liberal arts studies, professional programs and student activities. Enrollment is about 40,000 students.

In the School of Human Ecology, faculty and students seek to enhance the quality of people's lives and their environments through interdisciplinary research, creative discovery, teaching, learning and outreach. The dedication to excellence in teaching, scholarship and outreach aligns the School with the central mission of the University and with its historical purpose as a land-grant institution.
