MISSION: Bridging Research and Action.
Improving the quality of life by discovering, integrating,
applying, and disseminating knowledge about human
development, families, and their larger social contexts.
HDFS (formerly Child & Family Studies) provides outstanding undergraduate, masters and doctoral level education in family studies and human development across the lifespan.
Ranked among the top programs of its kind, HDFS offers an interdisciplinary approach to family relationships, child and adolescent development, early childhood education, adult development and aging, as well as child and family intervention, prevention programs, and policy studies.
The program is served by a faculty of twelve, four of whom hold integrated appointments with University of Wisconsin-Extension. We have approximately 200 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students. Departmental resources for training and research include a Laboratory Preschool and a Family Interaction Lab, as well as the resources of the entire Madison campus.
