Welcome

Pritika Chowdry. Installation detail of "The Crooked Line," July 7-15, 2009.

The Design Gallery holds exhibitions that relate to the processes and results of design. Exhibition programming supports the textile, apparel and interior design programs of the Department of Design Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Human Ecology. Biannual exhibitions focus on the holdings of the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection.

As construction on the University of Wisconsin’s School of Human Ecology building addition will begin in January, this fall will be our last semester in the current Design Gallery space. During the construction and renovation period, the Design Gallery will maintain a presence in alternative spaces throughout the UW campus and the city. “Stitched Ground: Artists Embroider the Land,” an exhibition curated by Design Gallery director Jody Clowes, will be on view at the Watrous Gallery of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters from February through April, 2010. Our annual juried student show will be integrated into the Department of Design Studies’s fashion show at Monona Terrace in early May. Stay tuned to find out where we’ll be next!

All Design Gallery events and exhibitions are free and open to the public. You can help support our programming through a gift to the University of Wisconsin Foundation. For more information, please contact gallery curator Jody Clowes.
