Margaret Cooper brought
to her work in textile chemistry an extremely strong background
in the sciences: a BA (1930), MS (1932), and a PhD (1934) in Chemistry,
all from the State University of Iowa, as well as post-graduate
work at Iowa and at Pennsylvania State College. Before coming
to Wisconsin she worked as a research assistant for the Child
Welfare Research Station in Iowa City, taught science and mathematics
at a junior college, and held assistant professorships in chemistry
at two colleges. She was appointed associate professor in textile
chemistry at UW in 1945, and retired in 1974 after twenty-nine
years of teaching and research.
