For thirty-two years,
women across Wisconsin looked forward six days of the week to
Aline Hazard's cheerful greeting, "Good Morning Homemakers."
Chosen in 1933 to be the announcer for the WHA Radio Homemaker's
Program, Hazard was granted a joint appointment in Radio Education
as Director of the program and in the department of Agricultural
Journalism in the College of Agriculture.
Her task was to inform
and entertain homemakers around the state. This she did by giving
agricultural reports on Wisconsin's commodities, live broadcasts
from museums and places of historical interest, interviews with
various academics, and special broadcasts on such topics as music
appreciation and book reviews.
Hazard's success as
a broadcaster was evident not only in the many national awards
she won, but more importantly in her loyal following around the
state. She regularly received more mail than any other program
on WHA. Listeners clearly trusted her for the advice she gave
about homemaking as well as for the company she provided to them.
Her dedication to providing accurate and up-to-date information
is evident in her decision to pursue a BS in Home Economics from
UW while working full-time and supporting her two young children
by herself. Through part-time studies, she completed this degree
in 1940. She had previously earned a BA in Speech and English
from Grinnell College in 1918.
