Anne Thompson was a member of the administration of the School from 1982 to 2000, initially under Dean Elizabeth Simpson and later under Dean Hamilton I. McCubbin. She earned all three of her degrees at the UW—a BS in Consumer Science and Clothing and Textiles (1976), an MS in Continuing and Vocational Education (1985), and a PhD in Continuing and Vocational Education (1994). Her administrative tasks were varied, and included tenure as Assistant Dean of the School from the 1987 to 2000, as Associate Director of Family Stress, Coping and Health Project from 1985 to 2000, and also Director of the Center for Women and Philanthropy for three years. It was while working in all of these positions that she decided to return to school in order to earn her PhD.

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, in collaboration with McCubbin, she undertook extensive research on topics relating to stress and resiliency.
