Background & Interests
In September 2001 Jennifer Angus joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She teaches in the surface design (print and dye) area and is coordinator of the Textile and Apparel Design Program. Jennifer received her education at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (B.F.A.) and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (M.F.A.).
She has exhibited her work internationally including Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and Spain. Jennifer has been the recipient of numerous awards including Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council and Wisconsin Arts Board grants. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison she has received annual grants from the Graduate School as well a Vilas Associate Award, the Emily Mead Baldwin-Bascom Professorship in the Creative Arts and most recently a Romnes Fellowship. The Ontario Association of Art Galleries selected her exhibition “A Terrible Beauty” at the Textile Museum of Canada as “Exhibition of the Year” in 2006. Recent exhibitions have included solo shows at the Newark Museum, Racine Art Museum, Chazen Museum of Art, and the Musée d’art de Joliette.
In the past three years, her work has been reviewed or featured in Art News, Architectural Digest (Russian edition), Embroidery (UK), the New York Times, the cover of Hamptons Cottage and Garden magazine, Art Papers magazine, NY Arts Magazine, Selvedge magazine (UK), The Globe and Mail (Canada’s national newspaper), American Craft, Utne Reader, Galleries West and Fiberarts among many others.
