Labs and Work Areas for Students |

Course StudiosCourse studios serve both as classrooms and work areas, and contain equipment and support areas for the different courses students can take. Equipment in the studio spaces varies, depending on the course emphasis that is taught in the studio, but may include drafting tables, sewing machines, plotters, vacuum light tables, workbenches and cutters. Other more specialized studios are detailed below. Interior Design Resource RoomInterior Design Resource Room is a teaching lab that provides students the opportunity to explore and discover a wide scope of materials, manufacturers and designers through actual samples, CD catalogs and Internet connectivity. The availabilty of tools used by professionals in the Interior Design industry allows the students to gain practical experience and create high quality portfolios. Textile Science LabThe Textile Science Lab is equiped with Quailty Control, Dyeing, and Plasma treatment equipment. In addition, students and faculty have access to the Plasma Center, and Materials Center Labs. Weaving StudioThe Weaving Studio is well equipped to serve students from beginning level to graduate students. Jack looms having 4 to 12 shafts and computerized dobby looms having 16 to 24 shafts are available for the design of a broad range of fabrics for applications in apparel, home furnishings or contract interiors. Lighting LabThe Lighting Lab is equipped with a wide range of light sources. In this lab students can compare the color, quality, and distribution pattern differences of various light sources, including incandescent, tungsten halogen, fluorescent, and high intensity discharge lamps. They can also see how various features of light fixtures/luminaires can modify these characteristics of light sources. |
