Human Development & Family Studies Minor (Option A)
PhD candidates in other departments on the UW-Madison campus (e.g., Sociology, Psychology, Social Work) or in other concentrations within the Human Ecology graduate major will benefit by choosing to do their required minor in HDFS. There are now dozens of interdisciplinary HDFS programs in the U.S. that often hire faculty with PhD's in other disciplines (e.g., Sociology, Psychology, Social Work), and having an HDFS minor will help these students establish their credentials in the field.
Students interested in a Ph.D. minor in HDFS should select a Faculty Advisor from the HDFS faculty who will approve the Minor.
The HDFS Minor requirements are:
- At least 10 credits of HDFS coursework.
- No more than 3 credits may be below the 700 level.
- An HDFS course that is cross-listed with another department should be taken as an HDFS course.
- A grade of B or better in each course.
In addition, the minor must satisfy all of the Graduate School requirements.
