Prospective Graduate Students
Human Ecology: Human Development and Family Studies (G549).
Many different kinds of students find a good home with the department of Human Development and Family Studies. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty with a broad range of academic backgrounds (including Psychology, Sociology, and Education), areas of interest (e.g., family policy, positive youth development), and research expertise. Students work on research projects using quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as applied research and outreach programs.
Students' own work demonstrates a diversity of interests and research approaches. They have recently presented at meetings of the Society for Research in Child Development, the Gerontological Society of America, and Society for Community Research in Action. Recent graduates have moved into careers in academia, extension, and the non-profit sector. Many students successfully balance family and work responsibilities as they pursue their graduate studies.
HDFS students participate in the department's Graduate Student Organization (GSO). The GSO supports students by advocating for students' interests, enhancing communication with the faculty, and building a sense of community among students
