The Middleton Building (1305 Linden Drive)
HDFS has temporarily relocated to the third floor of the Middleton Building located across Linden Drive from the Human Ecology Building, while the new Human Ecology Building addition and rennovation are taking place.
The Family Interaction Lab
The FIL is in the basement of the Medical Science Building and is designed to provide a naturalistic home-like setting for unobtrusive videotaping of marital, family, parent-child and peer interaction.
The FIL is decorated to look like a modern living room. It includes two custom-designed entertainment/bookshelf units which house two remote-controlled digital cameras concealed behind smoked glass. When a couple is seated facing each other at the dining room table the researcher is able to capture split screen images of both individual's faces. The room also has ceiling mikes, making the taping/observation of more active interactions (i.e., mother-infant interactions) and larger groups (families) possible.
A control room is located adjacent to the interaction room for camera control, taping, editing, dubbing and coding of videotapes.
