Board of Visitors
The School of Human Ecology Board of Visitors serves as an external advisory body to the Dean. Members of the Board have attained prominence in their field and are chosen because of their value in providing sound advice and counsel. Membership on the board includes graduates and welcomes members outside of alumni.
The Board is advisory in nature. It has five primary functions: 1) to provide advice and counsel to the Dean on matters for which such external advice is critical, such as long range planning, student accessibility, and physical facilities; 2) to establish an important link between the professional world and the School; 3) to give advice on programs and projects of interest to the state's economic development; 4) to form an advocacy network for the School; and 5) to advise and assist in major fund-raising efforts. The Board serves at the pleasure of the Dean. Generally, meetings are held twice yearly in the spring and fall.
Board membership is for a five-year, renewable term. At least three new members are appointed annually, giving a minimum membership of fifteen. Board members who have served a full five-year term automatically become members of the Emeritus Board of Visitors.
Membership on the Board of Visitors is recognition of personal and professional achievement. The School acknowledges the value of advice from the Board's members and hopes for active participation in all the Board's stated goals. Appointment is considered one of the highest honors given by the School.
