Center for Excellence in
Family Studies
Our Mission
The Center for Excellence in Family Studies promotes the development and well-being of individuals and families by advancing family research, programming, best practices and policy making through the generation, translation, dissemination and application of knowledge.
Our Focus
Grounded in the Wisconsin Idea that the boundaries of campus are the borders of the state (and beyond), the Center for Excellence in Family Studies (CEFS) promotes and facilitates the creation, application and dissemination of high quality research, evidence-based programming, principles and best practices for enhancing families and human development. The Center seeks to serve as a conduit and forum for scholars, students, practitioners, funders and policy makers to join their collective expertise in the creation of innovative approaches that address issues related to families and human development. CEFS acts as a vehicle through which the University is able share knowledge as well as capitalize on expertise found outside the University to promote healthy human development and family life.
Our Method
Families and the people who serve them often have difficulty accessing research information and using it to improve practice, policy and the lives of families. At the same time, the quality and relevance of research is significantly enhanced when it is informed by families and those who work with them. The Center for Excellence in Family Studies seeks to respond to cutting edge needs and issues faced by policy makers, practitioners, community leaders and the families they serve. CEFS initiates collaborative efforts which bring together scholars, students, practitioners, funders and policy makers to identify emerging issues, develop new partnerships, design relevant research and interventions, inform policies, and facilitate effective application of practices and programs that promote the well-being and development of individuals and families of Wisconsin and the world.
