Departments in the School of Human Ecology

Consumer Science- provides undergraduate, masters and doctoral level education in consumer science, family economics and retailing. Ranked among the top programs of its kind, the program is interdisciplinary and integrative, focusing on consumers as individuals and household members. The department offers an interdisciplinary approach to consumer economics, family economics, consumer behavior, family resource management, retailing, public policy issues and historical consumer issues.

Human Development & Family Studies- provides outstanding undergraduate, masters and doctoral level education in family studies and human development across the lifespan. Ranked among the top programs of its kind, HDFS offers an interdisciplinary approach to family relationships, child and adolescent development, early childhood education, adult development and aging, as well as child and family intervention, prevention programs, and policy studies..

Design Studies (formerly ETD)- offers multidisciplinary education in the design and research of interior environments and textiles & apparel. Students benefit from a broad-based program and a faculty specializing in areas such as design visualization, environment & behavior studies, history of interiors and textiles, interior design and interior architecture, material culture, textile & apparel design and textile science.
The department offers two undergraduate majors: Textile & Apparel Design and Interior Design.

Interdisciplinary Studies- is a small multi-purpose department, which focuses on the processes of education and community leadership as they pertain to the many fields and disciplines of the School of Human Ecology.
The department offers a major in Family, Consumer & Community Education.
