Research

Human Ecology scholarship reflects the School’s mission of improving the quality of human life. It includes outreach, and creative endeavors, encompassing aesthetics and culture, human development across the lifespan, and financial security and consumer behavior. Research is interdisciplinary and collaborative, energized by partnerships with scholars in diverse fields, and responsive to real-world problems and environments.

The UW-Madison provides a rich research environment, ranking as one of the most prolific research universities in the world and placing third among American public universities for research expenditures. Supported by campus resources including state-of-the-art technologies and world-class libraries, the School itself is home to the Preschool Research Laboratory, a Family Interaction Lab, the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection, and several centers promoting specific academic interests.
