Interested in a major in the School of Human Ecology?

The first step to becoming a SoHE student is to attend Becoming a SoHE Student Information Session. You will need to call the Student Academic Affairs Office at (608) 262-2608 to sign up for one of the dates. During this meeting you will find out about how and when to apply to the program, the difference between majors, required and supporting classes in the majors, career options and much more. You will also have an opportunity to talk with an advisor about your individual questions.

During the session you will find out about the application process but it is important to note the application deadlines for SoHE majors:
Human Development & Family Studies - September 15 & February 15
Consumer Science & Retailing - February 1
Interior Design - Early to Mid December
Textile & Apparel Design - Early May
Family, Consumer & Community Education - Rolling Admissions

To get a head start and to be prepared for the group advising session, take a look at the checksheet for the major you are interested in.

In addition to the checksheets, there is another way to find out immediately where you stand in regards to the requirements of our majors. We encourage you to log on to My UW and print a ‘What If DARS’ (Degree Auditing Report) for all majors you are interested in. Instructions for how to do so can be found here.

Lastly, it would also help if you print and bring an unofficial transcript. You can request this from the Student Center also, by selecting “Request Student Record”, under Academic History. The unofficial transcript will be sent to your e-mail.

With these three documents you will be well prepared for the group advising session you choose to attend. If you do not have access to a computer or printer, please come to room 135 in SoHE to gain access to one.

We look forward to seeing you!

If you have any questions, please contact our office at (608) 262-2608.
