Financial Aid & Lawton Grant

FINANCIAL AID

The Office of Student Financial Services assists students whose personal and family resources are not adequate to cover the costs involved in attending UW-Madison. Financial aid available includes loans, grants, and work-study assistance. The office also offers money management and debt management counseling and information on other sources of financial assistance, such as scholarships and employment.

LAWTON GRANT

Eligibility for the Lawton Grant

  1. Resident of Wisconsin or Minnesota.
  2. African-American, Latino, American Indian, or statutorily designated Southeast Asian students (Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese) who entered the United States after 12/31/1975.
  3. Established financial need and have already applied for financial aid.
  4. Minority status disclosed at time of registration.
  5. Sophomore, junior, or senior status.
  6. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0; minimum GPA of 2.0 the last semester in residence; not on academic probation or strict probation.
  7. Must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress carrying 12 credits each semester. New applicants enrolled for 6 credits at the time of application, but should plan to complete 12 credits each succeeding semester.

Special students and students working toward a second undergraduate degree are not eligible.

  1. New transfer students must complete 6 or more credits on the UW-Madison campus to be eligible for the Lawton Grant unless they received the grant at another Wisconsin post-secondary institution.

If you believe you are eligible for a Lawton Grant and would like to apply, complete the application form, available below or in the Student Academic Affairs Office, and return it to the School of Human Ecology Student Academic Affairs Office, Room 135.
