Admission to the Human Development & Family Studies Major
Transferring into the major of Human Development & Family Studies (HDFS) is a competitive process. Students who have completed 24 credits or more before declaring a HDFS major must complete the application process. Students who have completed less than 24 credits should meet with an academic advisor in the School of Human Ecology to discuss transferring into the major. Deadlines for submission of Applications for Admissions are: September 15 and February 15.
Criteria for Admission:
The committee will review all applicants and give preference to students who have some or all of the following:
GPA of 2.8 or above

Completion of some HDFS coursework with good grades

Experience (paid or volunteer) in work related to this major

Other life experiences that show a commitment to this major

Life experiences that will enrich our learning community
Our decisions also depend upon having room for more students in you class group (freshman, sophomore, junior or senior)
Application Materials:
- The completed application form, available in the Student Academic Affairs Office, Room 135.
- A 400-word maximum written statement
- Your current official transcript, which may be ordered online via the Student Center. Instructions on how to order your transcript is available on the Registrar's website. You may also attach transcripts of work completed at other universities if you wish.
- A “what-if DARS” in the major and option you have selected. Instructions on how to print a "What-If" DARS are available here.
All application materials, stapled together, must be brought to the Student Academic Affairs Office, Room 135, Human Ecology Building, no later than 4:00 p.m. on the deadline date.
Admissions notifications generally occur about three weeks after the deadline.
